Hegel

A foundational figure of German Idealism, this philosopher developed an elaborate system of historical development. Influenced by Kant's idealism and Rousseau's politics, his work explores the unfolding of ethics, government, and religion through a dialectical process. His historicist thought profoundly presaged later continental philosophy, including postmodernism, and his system was later adapted into a materialist ideology by Karl Marx.
