George Baxt was an American playwright, screenwriter, and novelist, celebrated for his contributions to cult horror films and notably for creating the detective Pharoah Love. This detective was groundbreaking, being the first in the genre to be both Black and openly gay. Baxt's writing often blended suspense, wit, and social commentary, frequently exploring themes of stereotypes and prejudice. His later works drew upon his insider knowledge of Hollywood, using celebrities as characters and delving into the behind-the-scenes world of show business. Baxt's style was characterized as sharp, humorous, and convention-defying.
