Kniha, vydaná jako svazek sedmý v rámci edice Výhledy - knihy zkušeností a úvah, kterou redigovali Vilém Mathesius a J. B. Kozák, obsahuje statě o nejvýznačnějších ruských spisovatelích. Autor (v knize je jeho jméno uvedeno ve verzi: Evžen Ljacký) v nich upozorňuje na rysy, které převzaliod největšího génia ruské literatury - Puškina. Gogol a Lermontov, Gončarov a Turgeněv, Tolstoj a Dostojevskij čerpali v mládí z puškinské poezie lásku k člověku a dobru, k životu. Jejich tvorba představuje jedno z nejlepších období světové literatury.

Druhý román o doktoru Málodělalovi (Dolittle) obsahuje poměrně mnoho fantastických motivů. Je zde podmořská cesta v ulitě obřího hlavonožce, plovoucí ostrov a mnohé další. Dětský román ve stylu Gullivera či Barona Prašila si našel miliony dětských čtenářů a ve dvacátých letech byl přeložen i do češtiny.

Resurrection (1899) is the last of Tolstoy's major novels.
