André Kaminski
May 19, 1923 – January 12, 1991
André Kaminski, son of a Jewish psychiatrist of Polish origin, grew up in Zurich and studied history. After earning his doctorate and completing his habilitation in agrarian history, he moved to Poland in 1950 as a convinced socialist. There, he worked as a producer and playwright, penning numerous theater pieces and screenplays in Polish. Later, he lived as a foreign correspondent in Morocco and Algeria before returning to Switzerland, where his highly autobiographical narrative works in German, published from 1983 onwards, achieved considerable public success.
