Selçuk Ören Books

This artist, born in Istanbul in 1985, engages with visual arts with a focus on illustration and graphic design. Since 2008, he has been studying graphic design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, though he previously worked as a graphic designer. His artistic path shifted towards illustration when he left agency work to fully dedicate himself to his craft. His first illustrations appeared in a graphic novel in 2009. His work includes illustrations for advertising agencies and magazines, posters for film festivals and theaters, book covers, and corporate design.

The second book of Selçuk Ören's "Şehzade Yangını" series tells the story of Tahir, who finds himself amidst a fire in Galata in 1768, desperately trying to save his gravely injured rival, Kadırgalı Kör Emin. The narrative unfolds in the courtyard of the Underground Mosque, where a crowd prays on this blessed day, some seeking forgiveness for their sins, others hoping to settle debts, while a few madmen plead with God for reunion. Osman Dede, yearning for acceptance into paradise, raises his head to the sky and sees the kingfishers flying above. He envies the souls of his faithful brothers being carried to heaven by the birds. However, in an instant, everything changes…
