Laurie Gilmore is the pen name of American author Melissa McTernan, who writes heartwarming, small-town romance stories. She became known for the Dream Harbor series, whose first volume, The Pumpkin Spice Café (2023), was a major success, featured on Good Morning America and named Book of the Year in the TikTok shop in 2024. Her style is defined by a cozy feel-good atmosphere, quirky characters and romance gently complemented by more sensual scenes. Under her real name, she writes romantic fantasy; her novella Secret Family Recipes for Love and Butter Cookies won the Stiletto Award. The pen name Laurie Gilmore was created at the suggestion of HarperCollins, who commissioned her to write a small-town romance series.
