The Tale of Peter Rabbit, first published in 1902, remains Beatrix Potter's most beloved story, featuring a mischievous rabbit who ventures into Mr. McGregor's vegetable garden. To celebrate its centenary, a 2002 edition restored six illustrations—four omitted in 1903 and two never before used. Potter, a cherished children's author, created a series of animal tales, including characters like Mrs. Tiggy-winkle and Jemima Puddle-duck. Her engaging stories and charming illustrations have become integral to childhood. With the proceeds from her books, she purchased Hill Top farm in the English Lake District, where she became a farmer and award-winning sheep breeder. She also pioneered a merchandise line by patenting the first Peter Rabbit doll in 1903, leading to a diverse range of products worldwide, including baby clothing and collectibles. Upon her passing, Potter bequeathed 14 farms and over 4,000 acres of Lake District land to the National Trust, ensuring its preservation for future generations. Today, her original 23 tales continue to be published by Frederick Warne, alongside various formats like baby books and activity books. The Tale of Peter Rabbit is the first in this cherished series.
