Ausgehend von einem offenen und multimedialen Kunstbegriff hat Helmut Schweizer in seinem mittlerweile vier Jahrzehnte umfassenden künstlerischen Werk mit Aktionen, Installationen, Fotografie, Film ein stringentes Oeuvre geschaffen, das komplexe Zusammenhänge aus unserem Verhältnis zur Natur, Landschaft und Kultur thematisiert. Im Mittelpunkt der Publikation steht die retrospektive Werkschau in der Städtischen Galerie Wolfsburg, in der der Düsseldorfer Künstler seine Arbeit in Analogie zur wissenschaftlichen Forschung in einem Laboratorium vorstellt. Das Motiv des Laboratoriums kann in den Arbeiten sowohl direkt anschaulich werden als auch allgemein als Metapher für das Leben und existenzielle Prozesse verstanden werden.
