Kniha obsahuje drobné úvahy, záznamy a postřehy osobitého francouzského básníka, jím samým datované 1936–1974. Svazek tvoří dvě knihy zápisků jihofrancouzského básníka, které jsou zároveň svéráznými básnickými záznamy. Na přebalu a frontispisu kresby Vincenta van Gogha.

Kniha vychází jako samostatně neprodejná příloha Revolver Revue č. 103/2016, jako již 15. svazek tohoto širšího knižního projektu. Svazek širšího knižního projektu. Vyzvaný autor po dobu dvanácti měsíců napsal pokud možno každý den jednu větu – větu, která bude ukotvena v konkrétním čase.

Výpravná kniha podává mnohotvárnou a objevnou výpověď o procesu přijímání a zavrhování jedné z nejkontroverznějších osobností moderní literatury nejen v Čechách. Komentovaný výbor z korespondence, dobových ohlasů, fotografií a dalších dokumentů, budovaný na půdorysu Célinova života a díla, sleduje ohlas veškerých jeho textů od vydání prvotiny až po současnost, přičemž českou kritickou recepci (F. X. Šalda, F. Peroutka, J. Vašica, R. Weiner, K. Čapek, B. Hrabal, underground ad.) zasazuje do mezinárodního kontextu. Východiskem ke knize byla stejnojmenná textově obrazová koláž, kterou překladatelka Célinova díla Anna Kareninová z iniciativy redakce připravila pro čtvrtletník Revolver Revue č. 70/2008 u příležitosti 75. výročí vydání kongeniálního českého – a ve světě vůbec prvního – překladu Cesty do hlubin noci (J. Zaorálek) a na kterou navázala velká anketa „Céline v Čechách“ v RR č. 74/2008. Kniha vychází v grafické úpravě Viktora Karlíka a Luďka Kubíka.

Death on the Installment Plan is the story of young Ferdinand's first 18 years. His life is one of hatred, of the grinding struggle of small shopkeepers to survive, of childhood sensations and fantasies - lusty, scatological, violent, but also poetic. There is a running battle with his ineffectual insurance clerk of a father, with his mother, who lives and whines around the junkshop she runs for the boys benefit; there is also the superbly funny Meanwell College in England, where the boy went briefly, a Dickensian, nightmare institution. Always there is humiliation, failure, and boredom, at least until he teams up with the "scientist" des Pereires. This inventor, con-man, incorrigible optimist - whose last project is to grow enormous potatoes by electricity - rescues him, if only temporarily; for the reader he is one of the most lovable charlatans in French literature.
