Clifford Witting

Clifford Witting was an English author of detective novels, noted for his sharp style and witty, if occasionally facetious, prose. His works frequently explored complex characters and situations, drawing original ideas from within the conventions of the formal detective story. Witting excelled at depicting settings, such as army life, and demonstrated a talent for brilliantly misdirecting readers or inventing ingenious murder methods. He also experimented with form, including surprise victims and inverted detective narratives, consistently offering readers something new within the genre.
