Biggles, Algy and Ginger take on the challenge of transporting gold bullion to France. Algy is captured and held to ransom and Biggles finds himself up against his old enemy Von Stalhein.

War has just been declared and Biggles is asked to take charge of a secret squadron operating from a cave inside a barren rock in the Baltic Sea. His orders are to cause as much trouble to the enemy as possible, for as long as possible.

The Air Ministry have allowed Biggles, Algy, Ginger and Smyth to accompany a party of volunteers to help Finland in their struggle against Soviet aggression. Whilst on a reconnaissance flight, Biggles finds a dying Polish scientist called Petolski, who had been working on important experiments with metal alloys for aircraft. He had the results of seven years' labour in a portfolio with him and rather than let the research fall into German hands, (Poland having been invaded by Germany), he has hidden it.

Two boys run away from school, lie about their age and sign up in the RFC. They meet up with Biggles at 266 Squadron and join his flight. But will Biggles find them out?

WW1 Captain James Bigglesworth RFC, mistaken for traitor Brunow, spies, with pal Algy at Middle East HQ. From Zabala, German Intelligence HQ, Capt von Stalhein limps in, but rides out as Arab, like chief spy British Sterne, German El Shereef, Biggles's target. Biggles and phony El Shereef are caught by Brits, Algy by Huns, and the real Brunow shows up.

Set against the backdrop of World War One, the story follows Biggles, a skilled fighter pilot in 266 Squadron, as he navigates the chaos of aerial combat. Despite the grim realities of war, he and his comrades find moments of levity, from humorous holiday antics to lighthearted competitions. However, the shadow of tragedy looms when a fellow pilot is murdered, prompting Biggles and his friends to pursue vengeance. This classic adventure captures the thrills and challenges faced by pilots during tumultuous times.
