For over twenty-five years, this author has dedicated himself to discovering the world's finest tea growers and producers, forging deep connections and acquiring profound knowledge. Returning to Detroit, he initially pursued a career in law but felt disconnected from its purpose. Witnessing his personal transformation through his daughter's eyes prompted a significant change. He resigned, returned to Asia, and with his mentors, began dismantling Western misconceptions about tea, including its cultural flatness and the loss of discourse surrounding craft and terroir. He realized the potential to share a different narrative, originating from an unexpected place: his hometown, Detroit. This led to the founding of Joseph Wesley Black Tea, a venture dedicated to sharing his passion for exceptional teas.
