Born in 1925 in Cheshire, Peter's musical journey began with his father's influence as a cellist. After serving as a tank driver in the Royal Armoured Corps during WWII, he pursued higher education at Wadham College, Oxford, where he became poetry editor. His career as a music editor at Decca Records transitioned into freelance writing, leading to over forty publications on jazz, ragtime, and classical music, including notable works like The Oxford Companion to Popular Music. He currently resides in Shepperton with his wife, Anna.
