Jacob Sturm

Jacob Sturm was a leading German engraver of scientific publications from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He specialized in the precise depiction of insects and plants, creating works renowned for their accuracy and detail. Sturm deliberately chose a small format for his engravings to make botanical and entomological knowledge accessible and affordable to a wider public, which contributed to their great popularity among naturalists. He was also an avid insect collector and founded the Nuremberg Society for Natural History, solidifying Nuremberg's position as a center for natural history book production.
