Harold Brighouse was an English playwright from the Manchester school of drama. His more than seventy plays were often set in his native Lancashire. They use humor to show the attitudes and character of the working and trading people. Hobson's Choice is a four-act comedy. Willie Mossop was a talented shoemaker. Henry Horatio Hobson was his boss. Willlie was persuaded to marry the almost spinster daughter of Hodson. Maggie is a talented salesperson and Willie a gifted shoemaker. In less than a year they were so successful that they took many of Hobson's clients. Willie attempts to help the alcoholic Hodson by letting him be his partner...silent partner that is.
