This author first gained attention in the late 1970s and early 1980s with fantasy ink drawings for the Dungeons & Dragons game rulebooks. He rose to prominence with his independent comic series, which he both wrote and drew. While early in his career he faced challenges with consistent scheduling and industry positioning, he reestablished himself in the late 1990s as a prolific writer. He authored the Pantheon series and penned short novels based on the hero Beowulf. In the early 2000s, he began writing extensively for DC Comics, creating numerous series, most notably the popular Fables.
