      We are pleased to present the proceedings from the Sixth International Conference on Parallel Problem Solving from Nature, held in Paris, France, from September 18-20, 2000. This event was organized alongside the Genetic and Evolutionary Computing Conference and the Congress on Evolutionary Computation, highlighting the fruitful collaboration between European and U.S. activities in natural computation. Since its inception in 1990 in Dortmund, Germany, this biannual conference has taken place in various locations, including Brussels, Jerusalem, Berlin, and Amsterdam, with Paris chosen as the site for the 2000 gathering, led by general chair Marc Schoenauer. The conference's scientific focus centers on problem-solving paradigms inspired by natural models. Natural Computing employs metaphorical concepts and mechanisms from natural systems, such as evolutionary processes involving mutation, recombination, and selection, as well as physical phenomena like annealing and punctuated equilibrium. It also encompasses growth processes in nature and economics, collective intelligence in biology, DNA-based computing in molecular chemistry, and multi-cellular behaviors in neural and immune networks.
