Jean Paul Marat

Jean-Paul Marat was a physician and political theorist renowned as a radical journalist and politician during the French Revolution. His journalism was distinguished by its fierce tone, uncompromising stance toward the revolution's new leaders and institutions, and advocacy for basic human rights for society's poorest. Marat was one of the revolution's most radical voices, becoming a vigorous defender of the sans-culottes and solidifying their unofficial link with the Jacobin group through his writings, notably L'Ami du peuple. His assassination transformed him into an icon of revolutionary martyrdom for the Jacobins.
