Pedro Muñoz Seca

A Spanish playwright, he was the foremost representative of humorous theater at the turn of the 20th century. His plays, celebrated for their verse, wordplay, and grotesque distortions of reality, created "astracán," a variation of the "género chico" genre. Despite criticisms of lacking self-awareness and overly flattering conservative sectors, his theater achieved immense popular success. His playful, intelligent, and solid humorous work is considered a precursor to that of Enrique Jardiel Poncela.
