Edmond Jabhs

Edmond Jabès was a major voice in French poetry in the latter half of the 20th century. An Egyptian Jew, he was deeply preoccupied with the concept of place and its loss in relation to writing, becoming a significant thinker on poetical alienation. He focused on the book as a unique space where exile and the promised land converge within poetry and inquiry.
