Sidney Rosen, an emeritus professor of astronomy, was raised Jewish in Boston, with his father working in the garment industry. Alongside his wife Dorothy, he authored a mystery series featuring Belle Appleman, a Jewish immigrant navigating Boston's West End in the 1930s. Rosen also penned the beloved children's science book "Galileo and the Magic Numbers," which remains in print, and has a further series of children's science books.
