For a long while, Lisbon was a sleeping beauty. From its heyday in the 15th and 16th centuries, rooted in the Age of Discovery, to the end of Salazars dictatorial regime in 1974, the city lived at a slower pace than the rest of Europe. With its nomination as European Cultural Capital in 1994, it suddenly found itself in the spotlight. Lisbon sits on the north bank of the Tagus, not far from the mouth of the river, and straddles the undulating terrain formed by seven hills. Thanks to fortunes amassed during the Age of Discovery, and in spite of the terrible earthquake of 1755, the Portuguese capital has a rich and varied architectural heritage. Every hilltop bears a castle or church, its slopes criss-crossed with networks of steep alleyways bordered with small colourful houses, while the slightest expanse of flat ground allows Baroque and Classical edifices to prosper. Even the banks of the Tagus are now home to world class contemporary architecture. At a time when Lisbons population and socio-economic fabric is undergoing major transformations, Gonalo Tavares and Fabrice Moireau have captured the citys atmosphere and essence, restoring its timeless magic, its unfailing charm and its unrestrained modernity.

Fabrice Moireau spent weeks exploring the landscapes of Sicily with his palette and brushes; he beautifully depicts this land of mountains and lava, of sand and grapevines.

    • Surrounded by the English Channel to the north, the Celtic Sea and the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Bay of Biscay to the south, Brittany is a picturesque region of France renowned for its beautiful coastline and stunning architecture. Brittany is steeped in history and legends. It is closely connected to the tales of King Arthur, in fact Merlin's tomb is said to be in a dolmen located somewhere in the region. Granite rules the area; churches, manors and farms are often built with this material, sometimes carved as intricately as lace. The Pink Granite Coast is famous for its blush coloured rock and sand. Fabrice Moireau roamed across this land from the Pointe du Raz to the Landes de Lanvaux and from the Morbihan to the Mont Saint-Michel Bay, to discover the most stunning and intriguing landscapes and buildings of Brittany, all of which he captured with his brushes and pens.

    • Paris and its gardens is no less beautiful than its streets, squares and palaces, and Paris without its gardens would not be the most visited capital in the world. Few large cities can boast such a rich variety of gardens as Paris. The picturesque rubs shoulders with the geometric, the most modern designs stand side by side with the ancient layouts and manners, and exotic species have been so well acclimatized that they have become commonplace. This is without forgetting the innumerable private gardens, sometimes reduced to a window box on a balcony, sometimes vast and secret. Such is the prodigy that a two-thousand-year-old culture has managed to accomplish.

    • Few world cities have had as turbulent a past as Berlin. This formerly divided capital has continued to evolve since the fall of the Wall in 1989 and is once more a vibrant cultural centre. Captivated by its eclectic architecture and abundant greenery, artist Fabrice Moireau pays tribute to the iconic sites and hidden corners of this great city in his vivid watercolour and detailed pencil sketches, paired with insightful introductions and captions by long-time Berlin resident Boris von Brauchitsch.

    • Comment raconter une ville que l'on aime ? Parler de son ciel, de son fleuve, de ses monuments, de ses avenues, de ses statues ?
