Wilhelm Eigener

    March 13, 1904 – October 9, 1982

Wilhelm Eigener was a German illustrator of animals and a graphic artist. After graduating from high school, he completed an apprenticeship as a painter and then studied art. Initially, he worked as a chief designer for a printing company specializing in posters for circuses and performers, before becoming one of Germany's most sought-after illustrators of animals and nature from the 1950s onwards. His watercolor illustrations, renowned for their naturalistic accuracy, adorn numerous books on animals and nature, as well as covers for zoo guides. Eigener undertook study trips to Africa to observe animals up close and served as a consultant for a popular television series about wildlife.
