Sylvanus Griswold Morley

Sylvanus Griswold Morley was an American archaeologist and a leading Mayan scholar. In the first half of the 20th century, he significantly contributed to the study of pre-Columbian Maya civilization through extensive excavations and publications on Maya hieroglyphic writing. Although his theories have been re-evaluated, his works, particularly on calendric inscriptions, are still cited today. Morley's enthusiasm and support for projects revealed much about the ancient Maya and inspired future generations of researchers.
