Hope and Isabella are two girls of 16 who are in love with each other. One is the daughter of aristocracy, the other the child of a gamekeeper and his Dissenter wife. Both are caught up in the violent turmoil of the Jacobite rebellion of 1715 along with thieves and highwaymen.
