Jej správanie vedie najprv k nepredvídaným reakciám, potom k nepredvídaným medziľudským vzťahom a napokon... Mladá Dawn si privedie do domu priateľa Ruda, lenže ten sa nepohodne s rodičmi a brutálne ich napadne. Otec na to doplatí životom, matka Hanna utrpí ťažké zranenie spojené so stratou pamäti. Rud sa ocitne vo väzení, ale po troch rokoch súd vyhovie jeho odvolaniu a proces sa obnoví. Hanna chce urobiť všetko pre to, aby vrah jej manžela ostal za mrežami. Hoci sama utrpela ťažký úraz, rozhodne sa oživiť v sebe spomienky na hrôzostrašnú noc a vystúpiť ako svedkyňa v obnovenom súdnom procese. Dawn je, naopak, odhodlaná priateľa brániť. Hoci matka svoju neprispôsobivú dcéru od detstva uprednostňovala a podporovala, vzniká medzi nimi najprv skrytý, postupne čoraz otvorenejší konflikt. To najťažšie – prijatie krutej reality – však Hannu ešte len čaká.
