Retsudô, das Oberhaupt der Yagyû, hat ein hohes Kopfgeld auf Ogami und seinen Sohn ausgesetzt. Die beiden sind deshalb mittlerweile im ganzen Land bekannt und werden buchstäblich von jedermann gesucht. Während Ogami sich nicht weit von Edo in den winterlichen Bergen versteckt hält, stellt der Shogun Restudô ein Ultimatum. Innerhalb eines Monats soll Restudô ihm Ogamis Kopf bringen, sonst.

Retsudô, der alternde Anführer des Yagyû-Clans, hat inzwischen alle seine Söhne und seine einzige Tochter Sayaka im Kampf gegen Ogami verloren.
