Stuart Hameroff

Dr. Stuart R. Hameroff is an emeritus professor of anesthesiology and psychology and director of the Center for Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona. He is primarily known for his work on consciousness, where, along with Sir Roger Penrose, he formulated the "orchestrated objective reduction" (Orch-OR) model. This model proposes that consciousness arises from quantum processes within the brain's neuronal microtubules. His research bridges neuroscience, quantum physics, and the philosophy of mind, seeking to uncover the fundamental nature of subjective experience.

Or does the very concept of a universe depend upon its presence? Does consciousness merely perceive reality, or does reality depend upon it? Did consciousness simply emerge as an effect of evolution? Or was it, in some sense, always "out there" in the world? These questions and more, are addressed in this special edition.
