Peter Urban is a German translator born in Berlin. He studied Slavic languages, German literature, and history. He worked as an editor at Suhrkamp Verlag, a radio drama dramaturg at WDR, and is currently an editor at Verlag der Autoren in Frankfurt. His extensive translation work includes Russian authors such as Gorky and Ostrovsky, Daniil Kharms, Kazakov, Khlebnikov, and the complete dramatic works of Anton Chekhov. He was recognized with the Helmut-M.-Braem Translation Prize for his new edition and translation of Chekhov's letters.
