Příběh polského plavce, který přežil Osvětim a Buchenwald. Henryk vyrůstal v Krakově ve 20. a 30. letech 20. století, byl aktivní sportovec, věnoval se plavání a vodnímu pólu. V roce 1942 byl zatčen a prošel několika koncentračními tábory, přežil pochod smrti a na jaře 1945 se v Dachau dočkal osvobození Američany. Po válce se vrátil domů a ke své sportovní kariéře, ale záhy se rozhodl z komunistického Polska emigrovat. S dalšími přáteli v polovině 50. let uprchl do Nizozemska a následně odjel do USA. Ve své vzpomínkové knize s mrazivou věcností a do detailů přibližuje každodenní režim v táborech smrti. Text je z větší části psán v první osobě z Henryho pohledu, místy ho autorka doplňuje vlastními zážitky z návštěvy Osvětimi.
