Pages from the Glossies schreibt die Reihe von TASCHENs Newton-Titeln fort, darunter Sex & Landscapes, World Without Men und natürlich unser alle Maßstäbe sprengender Newton SUMO, und veranschaulicht mit über 500 Originalseiten aus Elle, Vogue, Queen und zahlreichen anderen Hochglanzmagazinen das Zusammenspiel von Layout und Typografie mit Newtons provokanten Bildideen. Ihren besonderen Kick erhalten die Reproduktionen der Mode-Editorials und Bildgeschichten durch Newtons Kommentare zu ihrer Entstehung, erzählt in seinem typisch charmant-witzigen Tonfall. Es treten unter anderem auf: ein Atom-U-Boot, Goldfische, Ian Fleming, tobende Chefredakteurinnen, Pariser Nachteulen, ein Fotoautomat, Mädchen mit Vampiraugen, verrückte Verleger und natürlich jede Menge attraktiver Models.

Svět Helmuta Newtona je nanejvýš složitý a mnohovrstevný. Jestliže bylo jeho dílo považováno v 60. letech za šokující a provokativní, dnes se ukazuje, že Helmut Newton předvídal obraz ženy, jak se nám jeví na počátku nového tisíciletí: ženy, která raději sama udává tón, než aby se podřizovala, ženy, která se těší z překypující vitality svého těla, o němž sama rozhoduje, ženy zodpovědné za sebe i svoje touhy. Módní fotografie, akty a portréty – to jsou tři kategorie, do nichž Newton rozdělil svoje dílo. Ale tak jednoduché to není: módní fotografie může být též portrétem nebo aktem a naopak. Tato kniha společně s výstavou v berlínské Neue Nationalgalerie představila Newtonovo dílo v celé šíři a oslavila 80. narozeniny tohoto výjimečného fotografa, který se narodil v roce 1920 v Berlíně.

Just Loomis' first photographs were made in the mid-1970s, recording the railway lines and the casinos of his birthplace in Reno, Nevada; they tell of the highs and lows of everyday life in the American West. A former assistant and friend of Helmut Newton's, Loomis (born 1957) worked in the 1980s as a fashion photographer for magazines such as <i>Harper's Bazaar</i> and <i>The New York Times Magazine</i>. Turning to portraiture and documentary photography in 1990, Loomis began to make portrait photographs, in both black and white and in color, that show a raw and affectionate view of everyday life in America: a waitress behind a counter in a Hollywood diner, a young couple exuding the bliss of early romance, or children caught in moments of play. From his earliest work through to this latest collection, the photographer's first monograph, Loomis' method has been to insist on the value and beauty of what lies immediately to hand, and to locate the moments that illuminate that fact for the viewer. As June Newton states, "He understands these people, as he comes from the same place. These pictures are without artifice of any kind... I call them a perfect example of Americana today."
