Peter Pišťanek

    April 28, 1960 – March 22, 2015

Pišťánek emerged in the early 1990s with a new type of prose, characterized by expressive language and a wide range of stylistic levels. His early work delved into the dark corners of the Bratislava underground, depicting characters from petty criminals to major privatizers. With ironic detachment and precise sociological insight, he explored the motivations of characters driven by power and money, all against the backdrop of societal change. His later writings focused on grotesque portrayals of normalized society while blending elements of fairy tales with philosophical narratives, creating a provocative and controversial trilogy that continues to challenge Slovak literature.
