In der Schrift «Erotes» (Zweierlei Liebe) des spätantiken Autors Lukian (ca. 120–180 u. Z.) halten - eingebettet in eine Rahmenerzählung - zwei Männer ihre Plädoyers für die nach ihrer Meinung edlere Form der Liebe: Charikles aus Korinth lobt die Liebe zur Frau, Kallikratidas aus Athen die Liebe zum Jüngling. Den Sieg erringt der Mann aus Athen, der «Hochburg der Pädophilie». Der Gymnasialprofessor Paul Brandt (1875–1929) übersetzte als «Hans Licht» erstmals Lukians Schrift ins Deutsche, da sich Christoph Martin Wieland, der bedeutende Lukian-Übersetzer, damit nicht hatte «beschmutzen» wollen.
