Dit is het begin is het verhaal van Mark, werkzaam als telefonisch verkoper bij een verzekeringsmaatschappij. Door een reeks toevalligheden ontpopt Mark zich, samen met zijn collega en mentor Giles, tot een zeer deskundige schade-expert met een scherp oog voor bedrog. Mark en Giles worden naar een dorp gestuurd waar een vuilverbrandingsoven voor een verhoogde sterfte aan kanker zou zorgen.
