In this new edition of this reference 11 plates have been replaced, 52 extra or replacement black-and-white drawings are included and there are changes to 93 distribution maps. Field information has been modified or rewritten for 160 species. There is a new "rare bird bulletin" section.

A reference guide for the birds of Australia, which contains 20 plates, and a distribution map for each species showing subspecies distribution where appropriate. It contains over 1000 black and white illustrations that illustrate behaviours, flight silhouettes, comparisons between related species and other useful identification pointers.
