M. Champfleury

Champfleury was a French art critic and novelist, who emerged as a leading proponent of Realism in both painting and fiction. He began his career by writing art criticism, championing the works of artists like Gustave Courbet and El Greco. His own novels, among the earliest Realist works, focused on depicting everyday life. Beyond his literary pursuits, he also engaged in editing and later held a position at the Sèvres porcelain factory.
