A Swiss orphan is heartbroken when she must leave her beloved grandfather and their happy home in the mountains to go to school and to care for an invalid girl in the city.

Nicky is filled with horror when asked by her aunt to be a bridesmaid and wear a frilly dress - it doesn't fit with her image of being a champion cricketer! But her mother, who is a full-time wheelchair user, soon resolves the problem and makes for a happy day.
