Nei primi decenni del Novecento il pensiero lineare e riduttivo su cui si basa la scienza newtoniana è stato messo in crisi dagli sviluppi della nuova fisica. Questa crisi, che l'autore definisce "punto di svolta", dipende dalla nostra ostinazione teorica. Solo un superamento del riduzionismo ispirato a una visione olistica, ecologica del mondo potrà, secondo l'autore, aiutarci a sciogliere i nodi problematici del nostro tempo.
What is human consciousness, where did it come from, and how does it determine who we are and how we live in the world? At the heart of this book is the theory that human consciousness did not develop over time--that, in fact, ancient peoples from mesopotamia to Peru did not "think" as we do and therefore were not conscious.
