Joanna Cole

    August 11, 1944 – July 12, 2020

    Joanna Cole was an author of children's books and a teacher of science. She is most famous as the author of The Magic School Bus series of children's books. Her work includes over 250 books, from her first book Cockroach to the famous Magic School Bus series. Cole was born in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby East Orange. As a child, she loved science and had a teacher who reminded her of Ms. Frizzle. She graduated from the City College of New York with a bachelor's degree in psychology. After graduate courses, she worked for a year as a librarian in an elementary school in Brooklyn.
