Op Heartland is zoals gebruikelijk weer veel te doen: er logeert een merrie die van haar angst voor de halster af geholpen moet worden, en Amy wil ook uitzoeken waarom Feather, de pony van de twaalfjarige Jo-Ann, af en toe onverwacht steigert. Ze krijgt hierbij hulp van haar vader Tim. Hij heeft zijn dochters jarenlang niet gezien en probeert dat nu goed te maken. Amy's zus Lou ontloopt het contact met de paarden én met haar vader door fanatiek aan de slag te gaan met uitbreidingsplannen voor Heartland. Zal het de mensen én de dieren op Heartland lukken om hun problemen, met hulp van elkaar, te overwinnen?

Heartland is a horse farm nestled in the hills of Virginia, but it's much more than that. Heartland is like no other place - it's a place where the scars of the past can be healed, a place where frightened and abused horses learn to trust again. Amy knows that Ty is important to Heartland - and to her. Ty is the only other person who truly understands the meaning of Heartland, who is as dedicated to rescuing and curing horses as she is. But their friendship is thrown off balance when Ben, the new stable hand, arrives. And by the time Amy realizes she's pushed Ty away, he may have decided to leave Heartland forever.

Ze probeert zoveel mogelijk van haar moeder te leren en hoopt dat zij ook het talent heeft om naar paarden te luisteren en te begrijpen wat ze nodig hebben. Dan verandert alles door een tragisch ongeluk. Amy blijft wanhopig achter. Ze heeft nauwelijks ervaring en de enige logische oplossing lijkt Heartland sluiten. Maar dat wil Amy niet laten gebeuren...
