Travels through Afghanistan in 1959, a time when Russian influence was becoming increasingly apparent.
Armed with a miniature camera and a knowledge of the language Andrew Wilson entered Afghanistan by a back door, and stumbled across the building, by Russian technicians, of a military airfield close to the Persian/Pakistan border; from then on he travelled through Afghanistan, crossing the Hindu Kush five times, the last time in a Russian aeroplane...
Wilson portrays here the Afghan landscape in all its fierce beauty and squalor.
