Majorca is, quite simply, a paradisiacal island. Discover the secret, hidden side to the island, where private houses quietly exist behind thick walls of olive trees, protected from curious gazes of tourists. This is the side of Majorca only seen by the privileged few who live there, who have the luxury to enjoy, every day, not only the lush scenery but also the rich Majorcan culture and sumptuous cuisine (which you can test for yourself thanks to the house owners' favorite recipes we've included in the book.) The island, located near Ibiza off the Mediterranean coast of Spain, is the sort of place dreams are made of. Only a lucky few have turned such a dream into reality, and Country Houses of Majorca is your chance to see the stunning evidence in pictures. The 220 photographs highlight the island's most impressive houses, including many not revealed to the public eye until now. Among these treasures you'll find Frederic Chopin and George Sand's one-time winter hideaway, a tiny fisherman's cottage miraculously perched on the island's southeast cliffs, and the beautiful, old, antique-filled ""fincas"" restored by Nona von Haeften and her husband, Wolfgang Siegfried Wagner, great grandson of composer Richard Wagner. Let yourself be seduced by the country houses of Majorca- you won't regret the experience, even if it sends you into fits of envy...

Another book on Tuscany? Is it still possible to discover something new there? Barbara and Rene Stoeltie prove that it is. They have found the most beautiful country houses in the remote towns of Chiusi and Montalcino and in the Chianti and the wild Maremma region. These romantic farmhouses and isolated villas have been photographed exclusively by Rent Stoeltie for the third volume in the successful \"Country Homes\" series. Rene is a master at capturing the soft light of Tuscany which, once seen, is never forgotten. It Floods the interiors and paints cryptic messages on the uneven terracotta floor tiles. In a corner, bathed in the famous \"sfumato,\" a timeless still life consisting of a picture of the Virgin and a kitschy infant Jesus. Barbara Stoeltie writes consummately on the landscape and its inhabitants, on the hermitage in a hidden river valley near Arezzo, the \"fattoria\" with its award-winning wine, the palazzo in the moon-like landscape of Siennese Crete and the Renaissance villa near Sienna, formerly the country home of the Chigi family. She also managed to entice from the owners of these houses their favourite recipes for classic Tuscan dishes such as \"fagioli\" or \"ribollita,\" wholesome food that is quick and easy to prepare. A tempting invitation to rediscover Tuscany!
Barbara and René Stoeltie set out on their journey through Sweden in search of exceptional houses to photograph and write about. They found a number of extraordinary ones, ranging from a castle filled with family treasures to a little wood-built farm, a forgotten artist's studio built on a cliff by the Baltic, and the house in which Astrid Lindgren, the creator of Pippi Longstocking, was born. Ubiquitous silver-grey floorboards and pastel-coloured furniture are typical of the magnificent castles and manor houses of Sweden. With texts and poetry in praise of the land of the midnight sun, and photographs that capture its romance, this book has all the seductive power of its subject. Author Biography: Barbara and René Stoeltie both began their career as artists and gallery owners. With René as the photographer and Barbara as the writer, they have been collaborating on interior design articles since 1984, contributing to such important magazines as Vogue, The World of Interiors, AD, House Beautiful, House and Garden, Country Living, and Elle.
