    • This book compiles invited lectures from the AMAS & ECCOMAS Workshop/Thematic Conference SMART'o3, held from September 2-5, 2003, in a 19th-century palace in Jadwisin, near Warsaw, Poland. Organized by the Advanced Materials and Structures (AMAS) Centre of Excellence at the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research (IFTR) in Warsaw, along with ECCOMAS and the SMART-TECH Centre at IFTR, the conference aimed to unite the European community focused on Smart Materials and Structures. The event attracted 66 participants from various European countries, along with attendees from Israel and the USA. The program featured major topics divided into sessions: 4 on Structural Control (18 presentations), 3 on Vibration Control and Dynamics (14 presentations), 2 on Damage Identification (10 presentations), and 2 on Smart Materials (9 presentations). Each session included an invited lecture followed by contributed papers, resulting in a total of 51 presentations, with no parallel sessions. The workshop fostered engaging discussions among researchers and industry professionals regarding the scientific merits of the papers and the future development and industrial applications of the field.
