The Narrative Age
  • 2018

The book explores the innovative use of silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) modulators, which integrate organic electro-optic materials with silicon photonics for enhanced modulation efficiency. It highlights experimental findings demonstrating their capability for high-speed communication, achieving symbol rates of up to 100 GBd. Notably, these modulators can function directly with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), eliminating the need for extra driver amplifiers, showcasing their potential for advanced communication technologies.

This volume reports on the three-year research and development project WEB-TT, focusing on the processes and experiences of all participants. It aims to provide insights for institutions in Egypt and Germany that were indirectly involved. Conducted between 2011 and 2014, the project was sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of a program established in 2008 to export vocational education courses. WEB-TT holds a unique position as it was the only project to collaborate directly with a local private company. The objective was to develop, test, and market technology-specific vocational education courses in package solutions, facilitating the application of modern resource-efficient building technologies and power engineering technologies (water and energy) in arid and semi-arid regions, particularly in West Asia and North Africa. A consortium of ten German partners worked together to achieve these goals. The contributions in this anthology critically reflect on the experiences gained and results obtained, while also offering new perspectives for future endeavors.

The Type VII U-Boat was the most prevalent design and the test bed for many of the strategic and technical advances devised by Hitler's "Kriegsmarine" and thus the primary choice for closer examination in this detailed account of the equipment, weaponry and purpose of the underwater war.
