Historically, the Czech Republic is made up of three Bohemia, Moravia, and parts of Silesia, which together are known as the Czech Lands. The following account will concentrate systematically on the historical development of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, and consider Slovakia only after the birth of Czechoslovakia, mentioning earlier Slovak history only when relevant.
