A collection of Tokyo street-style portraits from Japan's premier street fanzine of the same name uniquely documents the changing face of street fashion throughout the past decade, featuring young adults wearing clothes that are a mixture of high fashion and home-made ensembles, which creates a novel, if not hysterical, effect. Original.
Shoichi Aoki Books
Shoichi Aoki is a Japanese photographer and the visionary creator behind STREET Magazine, TUNE Magazine, and the seminal FRUiTS magazine. He began documenting the vibrant street fashion scene in Tokyo's Harajuku district in the mid-1990s, captivated by a burgeoning youth culture that was forging its own distinct style. Aoki observed a unique DIY approach where young people ingeniously blended elements of traditional Japanese attire with handmade, secondhand, and alternative designer pieces. His founding of the FRUiTS magazine in 1997 served as a platform to celebrate and record this fresh, groundbreaking fashion, quickly establishing it as a cult publication with a global following.
