Příběh rozkrývá osud Villeho, mentálně postiženého chlapce, jehož handicap je ovšem pouhou kulisou, možná pomůckou, jak lépe vystihnout postavení ohroženého člověka, jehož možnosti obrany jsou omezené. Autor vychází z vlastních zkušeností, neboť při svém několikaletém toulání po Finsku vykonával nejrůznější příležitostné práce, mj. ošetřovatele v psychiatrické léčebně nebo pečovatelském domě.
