Françoise Frenkel

July 14, 1889 – January 18, 1975

Françoise Frenkel was a Polish bookseller and writer who founded the first French bookstore in Berlin. Her sole book, "Rien où poser sa tête," is a testament to her life and exile in France during the German occupation of Paris. Frenkel vividly captures the daily realities of life under occupation with authentic urgency. Rediscovered in 2010 and reissued in 2015 with a preface by Patrick Modiano, the work offers a poignant glimpse into wartime Europe.
