August Derleth was a prolific American author, primarily known for his contributions to the cosmic horror genre and as the founder of Arkham House, a publisher instrumental in bringing supernatural fiction back into print. Beyond his pivotal role in publishing H. P. Lovecraft and developing the Cthulhu Mythos, Derleth also excelled as a leading American regional writer. His ambitious Sac Prairie Saga, encompassing fiction, history, poetry, and naturalism, aimed to memorialize life in the Wisconsin he knew. His works often explore themes of nature and conservation, marking him as a pioneering naturalist in his writing.
