Kniha sestává ze čtyř dílčích antologií z děl čtyř výrazných básnických osobností evropského baroka. Tyto čtyři osobnosti tak vytvářejí pozoruhodný oblouk od senzuální poezie italské k metafyzické meditaci básníků ze severu. Většina veršů je do češtiny přeložena poprvé. Každý z básníků je zastoupen zhruba deseti (integrálně přeloženými) skladbami a uveden bio- bibliografickým medailonem.
